A while ago I came across a project where a guy used old hard drives as turntables (HDDj) and I decided to build one to see how it works. I got the parts and started putting it together… I managed to make it light up when the platter spun, but then I moved on to other projects and left it abandoned.
A few weeks ago I found out there's going to be an inventions fair in Santiago in November (Santiago Mini Maker Faire), so I submitted the project to show it there and, while I was at it, finally finish it. It got accepted :-) so I got to work.
Last night I ran my first test controlling audio: I wrote a program that detects which way the platter is spinning and sends the signal to the computer, where another program receives it and rewinds or fast-forwards a preloaded song.
The plan is to keep improving it and add buttons and knobs to build my own DJ set :-)
